Conquer your fear, not the other way around.
Less than an hour away from Bancasi airport, visitors can reach one of the best man-made attractions in CARAGA region, the Delta Discovery Park, which opened its doors to thrill seekers and adventure lovers in 2011. It is located in Purok 7, Ugabang, Bonbon, Butuan City.
Delta Discovery Park is basically an adventure park that combines the beauty of the area’s natural landscape and the thrill and excitement that are brought by man-made structures. It is home to the 2nd longest zip-line in the Philippines, and possibly in Asia, with a total length of 1.3 kms, which is just 100 m shorter than the longest one that is located in Balungao, Pangasinan.
Although Delta Discovery Park is well-known for its very long zip-line, it has more than that to offer. It also offers a 400-m dual zip-line, zorb ball, all terrain vehicle (ATV) riding, and horse back riding. Visitors may also opt to stay there overnight since they also have private cottages and dormitories.
Being close to the airport, my friend who is from the city made our visit here first in our itinerary. Our main (or maybe the only) goal in our visit was to try the adventure park’s 1.3 km zip-line. Since one of our friends has tried it before, she reiterated a few times before our trip that the zip-line is very high and very long. This is something that will definitely excite thrill seekers, however, for people who have fear of heights, this may be troublesome or even excruciating. She was asking us if we really wanted to try it since she knew that 3 out of 5 in our group, including me, are afraid of heights. But since we didn’t want to miss the chance to try it, we pushed ourselves (very hard!) to try it.
We went to Delta Discovery Park right after we had our breakfast. Our friend communicated with their staff few days prior to our arrival, that we were going to avail their jeepney rental. Since we only had the whole morning for this activity, we asked the staff if we could immediately start it. Honestly, I thought that the thrill and adventure would just revolve around the zip-line activity, but, I was wrong. The thrill started the moment we went aboard the 4×4 vehicle. The road going to the starting point of the zip-line was steep and very rough. Despite its inconvenience, we really enjoyed it. We really think that this is something that they should not develop because the thrill that it gave us was like a warm up before the actual challenge.
Since there were 2 of us who had a camera, we decided that one should go first, while the other should be the last to go. I took the liberty of being the first because I thought that it would be much difficult for me to be the last one since there wouldn’t be anyone to encourage or push me. To tell you the truth, despite being afraid of heights, I was able to enjoy the zip-line activity once I saw how great and amazing the view was.
After all of us were done with the zip-line challenge, we decided to rest for about 20 minutes, then headed back to my friends house in the city to prepare our things for the next days’ adventures in the province of Surigao del Sur (Tinuy-an Falls, Enchanted River, and Britania group of islands) and in Bukidnon (Dahilayan).
When we left, we took nothing but pictures, we left nothing but memories.
